Iohannes Dei gratia rex Anglie dominus Hibernie dux Norm(annie) et Aquit(anie) comes Andeg(auie) archiepiscopis, episcopis, abbatibus, comitibus, baronibus, iusticiis, vicecomitibus et omnibus balliuis et fidelibus suis salutem.  Sciatis nos concessisse et presenti carta confirmasse burgensibus nostris de Suthampton villam de Suthampton ad firmam imperpetuum cum portu de Portesmues cum omnibus pertin(entiis), libertatibus et liberis consuetudinibus suis et aliis omnibus que ad firmam dicte ville de Suthampton pertinebant tempore Henrici patris nostri tenendam de nobis et heredibus nostris imperpetuum ad firmam reddendo inde annuatim ad festum sancti Michaelis ad scaccarium nostrum ducentarum linrarum sterlingorum.  Quare volumus et firmiter precipimus quod predicti burgenses habeant et teneant predictam villam cum predicto portu de Portesmues cum omnibus pertinentiis et liberatibus et liberis consuetudinibus ad illam firmam pertinentibus sicut predictum est.  Testibus Waltero Rothom’ archiepiscopo, E(ustachio) Elien’ episcopo.
