I(ohannes) Dei gratia rex Anglie etc.  Sciatis nos dedisse et concessisse et presenti carta nostra confirmasse dilecto et fideli nostro Willelmo Briwer' quoddam riffletum quod erat in communi pastura sua inter Esselegh' et Elenden' in quo continentur ducente acre et aliud riffletum quod appellatur La Rigge inter terram ipsius Willelmi de Burcbach et Wlfhale essartanda et colenda et tenenda in perpetuum de nobis et heredibus nostris ipsi et heredibus suis infra seruicium quod nobis debet feudi duorum militum de manerio de Sumburn'.  Dedimus etiam et concessimus eidem Willelmo licenciam claudendi duos bruilletos qui sunt extra regardo foreste nostre quorum unus et inter Sumburn' et Stocbriggh' et alius Howde.  Dedimus etiam et concessimus ei licenciam claudendi boscum suum de Torre et boscum suum de Cadelegh' et boscum suum de Raddon' et boscum suum de Ailesber' et boscum suum de Brugh'Walteri.  Concessimus etiam eidem Willelmo quod habeat chaciam ad leporem et ad wlpem, ad catum et ad lupum per totam terram nostram et per totam Deuoniam chaciam ad capreolum extra regardum foreste nostre, et ut habeat warennam per omnes terras suas de leporibus et fesanciis et perditibus, et prohibemus super decem libras forisfacture ne quis in ea fuget neque venetur sine licencia prefati Willelmi.  Quare volumus et firmiter precipimus quod predictus Willelmus et heredes sui post ipsum habeant et teneant omnes supradictas libertates bene et in pace, libere et quiete, plenarie et honorifice ut supradictum est.  Hiis testibus: G(alfrido) Couintrensi episcopo, G(alfrido) filio Petri comite Essexie, Hugone Bardolf, Roberto filio Rogeri, Simone de Pateshull', Hugone de Neuill', Willelmo de Cantelup', Roberto de Wanci, Ricardo de Riueriis.  Data' per manus Simonis archidiaconi Wellensis et Iohannis de Grai apud Lichesfeld, ii. die Aprilis anno regni nostri primo.

Notification that the king has granted to William Brewer that he may assart the osier bed that lies in his common pasutre between ‘Esselegh’ and ‘Elenden’, in which was 200 acres, and the osier bed called ‘La Rigge’ beween William’s land of ‘Burchbach’ and ‘Wlfhale’, in the manor of ‘Sumburn’ for which he owes the service of two hundred knight’s fees; licence to enclose two coppices whic are outside the regard of the royal forest, of which one is between ‘Sumburn’ and ‘Stocbriggh’ and the other at ‘Howde’; licence to enclose his woods of ‘Torre’, ‘Cadelegh’, ‘Raddon’, ‘Ailesber’ and ‘Brugh’; that William may have a chace for hares, foxes, cats and wolves throughout the king’s land, and  a chace for roe-bucks throughout Devon outside the regard of th eroyal forest, and a warren throughout his lands for  hares, pheasants and patridges, and prohibition against anyone hunting there without William’s licence, on penalty of 10 pounds.
