The King was at Les Andelys on 21 October both in 1199 and 1201. There is no reference to the present letters in the surviving Charter Roll 1 John, and the Patent Roll for the year 3 John (RLP, 1b-2) is far from comprehensive for this period. |

Quare volumus et firmiter precipimus quod ipsum hospitale, fratres, terras, homines, res, redditus et omnes possessiones eorum manuteneatis, custodiatis et protegatis sicut nostra dominica, nullam eis vel rebus suis molestiam, iniuriam aut grauamen inferentes nec ab aliquo inferri permittentes. Et si quid eis in aliquo forisfactum fecerit, illud sine dilatione emendari faciatis. Et prohibemus ne predicti fratres ponantur in placitis de aliquo tenemento quod tenent de dono nostro vel antecessorum nostrorum quondam regum Anglie nisi coram nobis vel capitali iusticia nostra.
