Johannes Dei gratia Rex Anglie, dominus Hibernie, dux Normannie et Aquitanie et comes Andegavie, archiepiscopis, episcopis, comitibus, baronibus, justiciariis, vicecomitibus, constabulariis et omnibus ballivis et ministris suis totius Hibernie salutem. Sciatis nos dedisse et concessisse et hac carta nostra confirmasse Deo et ecclessie Sancti Thome Martiris Dublinie et canonicis regularibus ibidem Deo servientibus decimam redditus nostri civitatis Dublinie ad sustentationem predictorum canonicorum et consuetudinem cerevisie et medon’, quam consuevimus habere in tabernis de Dublinia et omnes ecclesias cum suis pertinentiis et omnes terras et omnia burgagia infra muros civitatis nostre de Dublinia et extra que eis rationabiliter data sunt et que de cetero eis dabuntur, et unam burgum liberum et quietum ab omnibus consuetudinibus et tallagiis et omnibus demandis preter langabulum et placita que spectant ad regiam coronam, et ecclesiam de Kilsalchan cum omnibus suis pertinentiis. Concessimus etiam eis batellum unum habere in aqua Dublinie et decimam salmonum venientium ad coquinam nostram in castello Dublinie. Quare volumus et firmiter precipimus quod predicti canonici habeant et teneant omnia predicta bene et in pace, libere quiete integre plenarie et honorifice, cum omnibus libertatibus et liberis consuetudinibus suis. Ceterum sciatis quod suscepimus in manum et protectionem nostram canonicos predictos et omnes res et homines et possessiones eorum. Et prohibemus ne quis eis molestiam aut gravamen inferat. Et si quis eis in aliquo forisfecerit, id eis sine dilatione emendetur. Prohibemus etiam ne ipsi vel homines sui ponantur in placitis de aliquo tenemento suo, nisi coram nobis vel capitali justicia nostro, et ipsi et homines illorum sint quieti de omni exactione et demanda et seculari servicio de hiis que ad proprios usus suos spectaverint, nisi solummodo in hiis que ad coronam nostram pertinent. Volumus etiam quod ipsi habeant et teneant curiam suam de hominibus suis et de omnibus querelis et placitis, nisi de hiis que ad coronam nostram spectaverint, sicut carte nostre quas eis inde fecimus, dum essemus comes Mortonie, rationabiliter testantur. Notification that the king has confirmed to the church of St Thomas the Martyr, Dublin, a tenth of rents of the city of Dublin and the custom of beer and mead, which the king customarily had in the taverns of Dublin; all churches, lands and burgages within and without the walls of the city of Dublin, which have have been given to St Thomas’s Priory; and one free borough and quittance from all customs, tallages and demands of langabulum, and crown pleas; the church of Kilsallaghan; the right to have a boat in the the river of Dublin; a tenth of salmon coming to the king’s kitchen in the castle of Dublin. Notification that the king has granted his protection to the canons of St Thomas’s Priory, their land, people and possessions. Instruction that their people not be impleaded concerning any tenement except before the king or his Justiciar. Quitannace for the canons and their people from all demands and secular service. Instruction that they may hold a court for their people with purview of all querelae and pleas except crown pleas, as granted in the charter made by the king whenhe was count of Mortain.
