The Magna Carta Project

Variant versions: the Huntington Family

The following copies of the Charter all have one feature in common with a copy discovered by V.H. Galbraith in a late thirteenth-century statute book preserved in the Huntington Library in California. This is that the chapter on fines is closer in terms of its phraseology to the chapter as found in the Articles of the Barons than to the chapter as it eventually appeared in Magna Carta. It also retains the position it enjoyed in the Articles rather than the position to which it was moved in Magna Carta.
