The Magna Carta Project

III. The fair copy of the Chronica Majora

by Professor David Carpenter

The fair copy of the Chronica Majora was made soon after 1250. It is contained in BL Cotton Nero D v, with the text of the Charter starting at folio 199. The copy incorporates into its text the additions made in Paris’s revised version of the Chronica Majora save that, when it came to counsellors at the start,  after the names of Langton and the archbishop of Dublin, the copy just refers to where they occur in the preceding chapter: ‘ut supra in xxiiii linea per ordinem’.
